Born of Filipino-American descent, Ryan Jordan grew up in San Francisco, California, where he was raised by a household of fashion-conscious women—an upbringing Ryan is most proud of. An integral support system coupled with strong family dynamics propelled Ryan to pursue his fashion dream at the humble age of 14. He attended pre-college classes at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and led several successful fashion shows at his high school, bringing him one step closer to the exciting Mecca of the fashion world: New York City. In fall of 2007, Ryan Jordan was admitted to the prestigious Parsons School of Design as a major in BFA, Fashion Design. Once there, he wasted little time and began to volunteer immediately, first as a production assistant for shows like 3.1 Phillip Lim and Herve Leger. While in college, Ryan juggled Parsons’ demanding curriculum with impressive real-world experience, landing internships with W magazine, Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, 944 Magazine, Visionaire, Yigal Azrouel, Sonny Groo, Prabal Gurung, and Tom Ford (previous Creative Director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent). In July 2011, CFDA Fashion Icon Award recipient Lady Gaga wore pieces from Ryan Jordan’s senior thesis collection, “Sexual Sensory SS12,” during overseas promotional visits for her album, "Born This Way." Gaga’s outfits, which included a Ryan Jordan powermesh corset and python-embossed leather skirt, were featured in a variety of national online media including Rolling Stone.com, Cool Hunting, and the pop star’s own personal Tumblr page, “Amen Fashion.” Just months after graduating from Parsons, 22-year-old Ryan Jordan is now living in New York City and is working as an Assistant Designer for internationally renowned fashion director, Nicola Formichetti.
